Themes
The main them of the story is censorship, and the affects it has on society. As these authors and there superstitious works are now banned and burned. Causing the authors to leave and be exiled away with their works. Ray Bradbury demonstrates how censoring someones writing is not just affecting the words, but the people who are behind it, the authors, writers, journalist, novelist etc. They are all affected with censorship ad shown in the story, when a writers work was completely extinguished, the writer himself disappeared and faded away. Same apply's to our society, when you censor someone work, you are censoring the person's thoughts and ideas entirely and greatly affecting them. The exiled authors try to fight back against the rocket crew but no success, them and there creations vanish.
Another one of the story themes is super naturalism as the authors on mars have seen what is capable outside the normal human experience and logic. The witches are capable of putting thoughts into the crewman and slowly kill them telepathically. The captain denies the sighting or sounds the others hear upon there landing due to its outside there logic and understanding. The authors are connected to there creation and if there works disappear they do as well. The writers and witches on mars have imagination and power that the crewman and people on earth cannot ever understand.
